Mom Brain Incident #4,638
I went to Rite Aid to pick up a prescription and a few things. When I went to pay, I realized I didn't have my debit card. Mini heart attack begins and I have 2 boys in tow. I manage to pay with a check and get out of there. I have to call the hubs to "help me think". (!!!) I realize the last place I used it was the Post Office. So, I go there to see if they had it. And they didn't. So, I go home and I dump my purse. (where does all that stuff come from?) Not there. I go to change in to some yoga pants, so I can start going through my online banking and get ready to cancel my card... I empty my pockets and guess whats in my back pocket? Yeah, the damn debit card... It had been in my jeans pocket since Monday.
Yay, me! Exciting day. -> Wine please!!!

Global Green USA Green School Makeover Competition Presented by Pureology
Announcing Global Green USA's Green School Makeover Competition!
Well, it was announced awhile back and time is running out to enter your child's school!
Why should schools go green?
When a school goes green, children benefit—as well as the environment! Green schools lead to:
Improved student performance. When children learn in classrooms with natural daylight, improved sound quality and non-toxic building materials such as non-VOC carpets and paints, test scores can improve as much as 20%. Attendance also improves!
More funds for student resources. When green upgrades are made to a school, water and energy costs can be reduced by as much as 40%. These savings can be channeled back into resources that directly benefit students, such as textbooks, computers and other essentials.
Reduced carbon footprint. Greening a school significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions that cause global warming.

I think it's important to teach our kids how to help our environment and keep (or help) our home. This is the only planet we get!
So, without wasting anymore time - Just click the link below and get started. The entry deadline is March 31, 2013. I know, I know... soon. So, just get on over there. It's doesn't take long to fill out the entry. And hey, it's for the kids!
Good Luck!

To Preschool or not to Preschool...?
How may of you out there did not send your little ones to Preschool?
Am I the only one out there? My eldest went to Preschool for a bit. (He is now in second grade.) But, my youngest has not. He will be starting Kindergarten in the Fall. I'm starting to regret not sending him to Preschool now. He is really active. I mean really active.
I have a question, though... Why isn't there Preschool in the public school system, like there is Kindergarten. I mean not everyday or anything. But, Why not 3 half days a week? Or something like that? I know all parents out there can necessarily afford to send their kids daycare / preschool. It certainly isn't cheap.
So, do you think I'm nuts for not sending the little one to Preschool? What kind of advice can you guys give me to prepare him for Kindergarten? Any and all forms of advice are welcome and appreciated.

Say "Hello" to my little friend!
Here she is:
Her name is Daisy. (Isn't she cute?!) We adopted her this weekend from the animal shelter in Everett. She had been there since the beginning of January. I am so surprised that no one had adopted her. Pure bred breeds don't stay there long. But, we are the lucky ones to bring her home!
She is just over 2 years old. So, you know what that means. She has so much energy!!!
Which might be a little overwhelming for our other rottie, Kaleb. He is closer to 10 years old. They get along but there is definitely some jealousy. - On both parts.
She is a sweetheart and like I said - We are lucky to have her!
Remember - If you can, rescue. They need you the most!
We did it, we found it!
Did what, found what?
Well, I was helping a friend and her family look for a house. And we finally found it. It was perfect. A two story home with 4BR and 3.5 bath. Open floor plan, brand new appliances, marble counter tops, etc. In a family oriented neighborhood, and in a cul-de-sac. For a decent price even...
Lucky, right?! Now all she had to was work out the deal...
So, how did my dear friend not even consider a VA home loan? I mean, if it's available to you wouldn't you take advantage of it? Well, yeah! I would if it were an option for me. VA home loan rates are at an all time low.
So, what are the advantages of a va loan? Let me list a few points for you. This what info I found for my friend.
* No down payment
* VA loans are not credit score based
* Seller pays all the closing costs (up to 6%)
* No prepayment penalty if you decide to refinance or sell your home later on
These are only some the advantages of obtaining a VA loan. So, if this option is available to you - You must definitely take advantage of the opportunity.
And yes, I wrote this because of you, FRIEND X! Where would you be without me?!

Blonde coffee, hyper activity & some other mother!
Dear Mom who was there at the barber the other day,
Thank you so much for informing my husband that our youngest son is Hyperactive. Seriously? No...Seriously, who the hell are you? First of all, I don't know you. You seem like someone who is on some kind of speed. How's that for a little judgement? Does that tickle your fancy?!
Please proceed to tell me that you think I should give my (just turned) 5 year old son coffee. To calm him down of course! But make sure it's blonde coffee so the acid doesn't upset his tummy. How about my tummy? I'm getting sick just hearing you tell me what I need to do.
First of all, my son has never been diagnosed with any type of hyperactivity. I will however admit that we are cooped up inside most of the time. (The oldest goes to school) It is winter after all. Rain, freezing temps, cold and all that jazz. So, yeah he might be excited to get out of the house and get his hair cut. At his favorite place. (Well, not anymore. That's a story for another time.)
Second of all, I didn't understand half of what you said. Slow down and enunciate. And damn it, stop mumbling. I do know that you were passing judgement on our kids. Well, judging one and praising the other. Praising the one who was "so quiet and mature." Little did you know, he's the troublemaker. So, there. What a great observation on your part.
Next time I see you, if at all don't talk nor look at me. Or I might send my "hyperactive" son over to bite you.
(just a little rant.)

You know you're a mom when... (A growing list)
You know you're a mom when...
(This is a growing list! Please feel free to comment your own answer!)
* You find yourself picking boogers out of your kids nose with your
finger.
* You wipe your kids nose with sleeve of your shirt and roll it up to hide it. (Sometimes, you might forget to roll it up, though)
* You might call your child by the dogs name (or vice versa) when they are in trouble or are frustrated with them.
* You find yourself watching one of their cartoons / tv shows and see that your child has fallen asleep. And you don't know how long they have been sleeping.
* You find yourself humming or singing a theme song to one of yourself children's favorite shows.
* You have someone screaming at you from the bathroom to wipe their butt

Judgement and The Mothering
What is it with Mom's who judge other mother's for the way they raise their children? Any smart person should realize, what works for me might not work for you. And vice versa.
For a mother to belittle another mother is absolutely horrible. No one knows what you're really going through, except you. Unless... you fall into the mommy blogger category. We write about it. Pretty or not. Boogers and snot. Cuts and bruises. Puppy dogs and rainbows. And all those "controversial issues".
But, still that shouldn't make you a target. Just because we have the balls to put out there, what you're afraid to say.
So, take a step back and look at who you are. Be the fabulous Mom that you are. But, don't judge the other Mom because she does it differently.
Maybe she's just trying to figure it all out, too.

Enter 2013 ...
So, here we are - 2013 Day 2. How are we all doing? Have we all made some resolutions? Im sure many of us have made the dreaded I want to lose ___ pounds resolution. (insert your own number) Am I right? Sure I am. Besides that, what else do you hope to accomplish this year? I've made a small list of things and here they are:
* Be more positive
* Love myself more
* Be more productive
* Write more
* Read more
I'm sure there are more things I want to do. But that's all I can think of at the moment. What can I say it's a work in progress.
Happy New Years everyone! May you have a happy and blessed year!
